What We Believe as a Ministry ......

We are all sinners - We believe that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) therefore we need reconciliation and forgiveness of sins. Forgiveness is God's promise but we must examine ourselves and admit we need saving.

We all must repent. Mark chapter 1, Jesus called everyone to "Repent and believe the Good News". Repentance is a turning away from sin. No one is rendered perfect and beyond giving into temptation but willful rebellion is not for the Christian. Instead, our deepest desire is to obey God and live in holiness. We are saved by faith and not by works but we are to become new creations, putting on the new man, taking up our crosses daily, and following Him.

We are saved by faith: (Sola Fide) Salvation is God's free gift to us and it is by faith not by religious works and rituals. The church is where the Word is preached and the sacraments administered but the works of the church do not save.

Salvation is God's gift for grace: (Sola Gratia) God's is merciful and kind and has given us salvation as a free gift. God's grace is for everyone who will repent and come to Him (Ephesians 2:8)

Salvation is found in Christ alone: (Solo Christo)- God has given us the ministry of reconciliation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:18) and in Him we find complete forgiveness of sins and by His grace are justified and stand before God righteous. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

The glory of our salvation is to God alone: (Soli Deo Gloria). There is one God and He is the one to whom all the glory of salvation is to be given. No person, institution, or other god plays any role in the saving work of God in giving His Son to pay for our sins and in Him find complete atonement.

The Bible is the perfect and inspired Word of God: (Sola Scriptura). Joy Independent Lutheran regards the Bible as the literal Word of God and the ultimate authority for all matters of doctrine and Godliness. With correct understanding and application we take the Bible literally, believing it to be without error, "God breathed" and suitable for all doctrine (2 Timothy 16). All sermons are written and delivered to be held up to scripture for critique.

Christ is the only mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5) No person, living or departed, goes to Christ on your behalf. Christ is your savior by faith and is our mediator with the Father. No church authority or doctrine of man stands between you and the Lord. Nor, can the canonized intercede on your behalf with the Father. Penance and outward acts of contrition do not atone for ones sins. Christ did it all on the cross.

Communion - Joy Independent Lutheran celebrates "Close Communion" every Sunday. It is not a requirement that one be a member of Joy Independent Lutheran . Holy Communion is for all baptized believers in Jesus Christ who, having examined themselves, approach the Lord's table with a truly repentant heart, believing in the True Presence of Christ in the bread and the cup and not a mere symbol. (1st Corinthians 11:29-30). The communion cups are filled with grape juice to accommodate minors and people with problems with alcohol.

Confession - We practice corporate confession in our services as all Lutheran churches do. We also believe in individual confession with the pastor when one needs to discuss a sin that they find especially burdensome. No penance is given because no act of contrition can forgive sins. The confession is heard, absolution is affirmed, and guidance is given to help the penitent in his or her desire to obey the Lord and have victory over his or her sin.

Traditional Liturgical Services - Liturgy is good because it approaches God in a reverent and orderly way. On the other hand, liturgy can be cold and lacking is spirituality if it is no more than a format. We believe that church can be beautiful, uplifting, and spirit filled with a traditional liturgy. The creeds, congregational prayers, scripture readings, sermons, and of course the Lord's Supper are comforting as they contain statements of faith, prayers of intercession, means of grace, and above all, the liturgy gets the congregation involved in the service instead of being a passive audience.

"We have no "contemporary service".

Theology - We believe in the Holy Trinity as laid out in the Bible and explained in the three ecumenical creeds, the Apostles Creed, Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed, as well as the Augsburg Confession while teaching both the Luther's small and large catechism.

Justification by faith alone and Jesus Christ is the only way to the Father.

Not yet saved? - If you're not yet a Christian but would like to learn more about Jesus Christ, you are most certainly welcome. You don't have to be a Christian to attend church, but you do need to be a baptized believer to receive communion. You can still get a lot out of church. Hear the Word of God for yourself and see how amazing and merciful Jesus is and what He has done for you.

We hope you will come worship with us, Sunday mornings at 10:00 am. At our chapel at Pine Ridge

May GOD be with you.
